Once you have identified whether the bulbs holders are single or dual filament you then need to ID how bright the bulbs need to be. You can also see how the single filament bulbs have a single contact on the base while the dual-filaments have two contacts. See the following pic of the bottom of a later front turn signal: Dual-filament bulbs use two contacts at the base. Single filament bulbs will have a single contact at the bottom where the base of the bulb sits. The true test is to look at the sockets where the bulbs are inserted. Runs great but has sat neglected the past 3 years in my warehouse and just getting it back up and running. I have a new set of used '70 fenders and lights I will change this summer (after 20 years it's about time) It's a little bit of a Frankenstein car with 1973 DP engine too. It is a 1970 convertible with '73 rear fenders and lights. What I own is someone else's' project I bought in 2000 that has wrong fenders and lights(1973). Didn't the 731 previous owners of your 1973 leave that in the glove box for you? If not, see the Tech Sectionġ970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. But appears the 4 bulb 1973 may only need single element bulbs all the way around. Earlier years with three bulbs have one DUAL ELEMENT bulb for dual duty on STOP AND TAIL LIGHT. I have 1973 rear lights (elephant foot) and trying find exactly which bulbs it needs.
